Our future (and yours!)

We work enthusiastically to be part of a cleaner and fairer world. But we have many more dreams and continue to work for a better future. Over the next years, we will expand our tree planting program, to accelerate our conversion to agroforestry and diversify our crops and income.

We will also start roasting our own coffees in 2021, with the support of the World Bank, to increment our share of the value chain, and offer our members the opportunity to roast their lots.

During the 2020/21 harvest and beyond, we will also increase the production of organic fertilizer from the pulp of our cherries. We have more than enough pulp to satisfy all our needs for fertilizer. On top of that, we will generate bioferments from the mucilage in the residual water. We’ve also sold some ‘cáscara’ and are seeking more opportunities, but are also aware that demand is currently very limited.

Cáscara, delicious for teas!

We’re also looking into the feasibility of a combination of solar and wind energy to provide 100% of the electricity we need for our offices and cupping lab, as well as the feasibility of cleaner water for part of our community. But these two projects are for later, as we are currently focussing on priorities that we consider more urgent.

In 2016, Cafesmo was barely more than a dream. Now that this dream came true, we have even more dreams! But now, we also know that Eleanor Roosevelt was right: the future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams!
