Finances and facilities

It’s not easy to develop a relatively small and young organization, with limited resources. Access to credit is as difficult as it is necessary. Fortunately, in 2018, we secured $ 800,000  in support from the World Bank. 60% was a subsidy and 30% a loan, while we had to chip in 10% from our own resources.

This capital injection has allowed us to improve our facilities enormously. For instance, we have a newly installed wet mill which uses 90% less water than the previous one.

Our new wet mill uses 90% less water.

We’ve also built new office space, which includes a meeting space as well as our own cupping lab. Thanks to the temperate climate, the building needs no air conditioning, nor ventilators, so we mostly need energy just for our computers. And our coffee machine, of course!

The cupping lab is well equipped though, to make sure that we can do our own quality control and meet the expectations of our buyers, and determine a fair price for each coffee.

We also strive to obtain low interest loans for Cafesmo as well as for our members. Without these efforts, many producers would risk drowning in debt.
